Invoice from Tasks/Timesheets

Jeff, first of all I want to commend you on an amazing product. I have no doubt that once the word gets out you will have a very successful venture here. I have plugged you on the forums of Boagworld.com. Hopefully you will get some quality users from that group.

My question is around creating an invoice based on the project tasks or time sheets. The way I would envision it would be to select a task, for which I would be able to report hours, then have an option to "Create Invoice for Task". Also, I would like to be able to select tasks to put on an invoice as line items.

My clients seem appreciate seeing a breakdown of what they're paying for. It makes them feel like they are getting more value. It would be much easier for me to select from a dropdown of current tasks than me trying to remember them or have two browser windows open at the time of invoice creation.

Please don't take this as criticism, I realize you are working on this product as we speak. It's amazing and I want to thank you again for making this public.

What's here now seems very well thought out and if I'm missing a better way to handle the invoicing per task, please let me know.

thanks,
.brit

Hi Brit,
Welcome to the forum and thanks for the thoughtful post. And thanks for plugging CPO on Boagworld - I listen to Paul and Marcus religiously and I love the work they are doing. Great guys they are.

Hey, regarding invoicing by task - this is something I've been meaning to address for some time now. Since I use CPO for my office work, there have been many days when I truly wished this feature was in place. Currently, you have to run a timesheet report, and then create an invoice "from memory" or print out the report and use that as a reference for generating an invoice. I'll be the first to admit, it's just dumb!

If I can escape bug fixes for an afternoon, I'm going to update the Developer Notes portion of the forum with accepted feature requests along with proposed timelines for completion. I'll keep you posted on the progress of your request.

Thanks again for your comments - they are much appreciated!

Hi
Yes, I agree it would good to be able to connect up the invoices with the time sheets. Has this been done yet? Also, is it possible for clients to email a specific address and by doing that, opening up a ticket? Or perhaps filling out a form to open a ticket?
Thanks
Tim

Very, very good tool!

Is there a way round this lack of relationship between hours logged under tasks and invoice?

I'm thinking why not ignore the task and time-sheet functionality and just create an invoice at outset of project and then add items to the invoice whilst inserting a date in the comment area. That way the invoice kind of works as a time-sheet and your client gets a breakdown.

Only problem now is every time I create an invoice I have to paste in companies house details and VAT number (UK law) via the comments box.
